Apollo is the son of Zeus and the
twin brother to Artemis, the Moon-goddess. According to the legend their
mother gave birth to them in the Ortega woods, just north of
Kusadasi.
‘Didymaion’ means ‘twins’ and this is the reason why Apollo
Temple stands in Didyma Altinkum. The Greeks who believe in fate looked
upon Apollo as an oracle and the oracles received from the priests at the
Temple of Apollo at Delphoi influenced and changed the lives of people
immensely.
The lonians built the temple in Didyma as the second oracle
centre and they constructed it with such care that it was one of the most
magnificent temples of the times.
Apollo Temple is one of Altinkum’s
main attractions and a visit to the temple during your stay is a must. To
be able to appreciate the true significance and beauty of the temple you
must take the time to visit.
